Hi there, I’m Maxime Carter, a 38-year-old chef based in sunny San Diego, California. My journey into the culinary world wasn’t the most conventional one, but it’s been full of flavor, learning, and a deep passion for nourishing the body and soul through food.
I grew up in a small town in Oregon, where my earliest food memories were of picking fresh blueberries with my grandmother and watching my dad make sourdough from a starter older than me. My family didn’t talk much about “health food,” but we lived it—home-cooked meals, garden-fresh veggies, and a rhythm tied to the seasons. I didn’t realize at the time that this would become the foundation for my philosophy as a chef.
After earning a degree in nutrition science and spending a few years working in public health, I realized I was most alive when I was cooking. I made the leap, enrolling in culinary school in New York City. It was intense, competitive, and utterly thrilling. I loved it. Still, I knew my path wasn’t five-star restaurants or fancy plating—I wanted to help people feel good in their bodies and fall in love with food that loves them back.
Now, I specialize in creating whole-food, plant-forward recipes that are as vibrant and energizing as they are satisfying. Think roasted beet hummus, lentil walnut tacos, or a silky butternut squash risotto that’s secretly packed with turmeric and a whisper of coconut milk. My kitchen is a lab for joyful experimentation, and yes, sometimes that means a few flops (like the time I tried to ferment cashew cheese during a heatwave—lesson learned!).
These days, I run wellness cooking workshops, consult with local cafes on healthy menu development, and share recipes and tips on my blog and Instagram. My mission is simple: to demystify healthy eating and make it accessible, delicious, and fun.
