These Earl Grey cookies combine buttery richness with the fragrant aroma of Earl Grey tea. Perfect for afternoon tea or as an elegant homemade gift, they’re crisp on the edges, soft in the center, and beautifully sophisticated.
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons finely crushed Earl Grey tea leaves
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
Optional: powdered sugar for dusting
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the egg and vanilla extract. Beat until fully combined.
In another bowl, whisk together flour, tea leaves, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and place on baking sheet.
Flatten each ball gently with your palm or a fork.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
Cool on tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
For a stronger flavor, use double bergamot Earl Grey tea
You can also add a light lemon glaze or dip cookies in dark chocolate for a fancy twist.
